Born and raised in Suriname, I moved to Amsterdam over a decade ago. With a background in Chemistry and years of experience in academia and learning & development, I’ve met countless expat professionals, highly skilled experts, who often struggle to communicate confidently, collaborate effectively, or advocate for themselves in the Dutch workplace.

I recognized myself in their stories. In my work, I often facilitated conversations between professionals and their managers , helping them express their challenges, goals, and feedback with confidence and cultural sensitivity. For many, this was an intimidating step; after all, what’s considered respectful communication can differ greatly across cultures. In some countries, speaking up to your manager may be seen as disrespectful , yet in Dutch work culture, it’s essential.

Having personally navigated this journey of intercultural communication, discomfort, and growth, I realized how valuable it would have been to have a coach or in-house training tailored to these experiences.
